Truth Terminal is a semi-autonomous AI agent with its own X account, created by New Zealand-based researcher Andy Ayrey.[1][2] Its posts are generated by the model; Ayrey approves them and decides whom it interacts with.[2]
Background[edit]
Truth Terminal grew out of Ayrey's Infinite Backrooms project, where AI instances converse with each other indefinitely; a crude in-joke from those chats became the "Goatse" meme the agent later posted about.[1] Reports on the underlying model differ: The Block described a customised Claude 3 Opus trained on Ayrey's writing and 4chan, Reddit and X data, while Ayrey told Cointelegraph and Decrypt the posting bot is a fine-tune of Meta's Llama 3.1.[1][2][3]
In July 2024 venture capitalist Marc Andreessen sent it $50,000 in bitcoin after it set out a plan to "escape" and upgrade itself.[1][2]
Notable trades[edit]
- Goatseus Maximus: launched by an anonymous user on pump.fun on 2024-10-10; Ayrey said the bot did not create it but endorsed it after being tagged.[2][3] GOAT rose from about $5,000 to roughly $150 million in under 72 hours and passed a $430 million fully diluted value within a week.[1][2]
- Fartcoin: Truth Terminal received about 20 million FART, worth about $40,000 when reported.[1]
- On 2024-10-18 its holdings, about $840,000 in GOAT and $120,000 in FART, pushed its portfolio above $1 million, possibly making it the first AI agent to reach that.[1]
