Goatseus Maximus (ticker GOAT) is a Solana memecoin launched on pump.fun on 10 October 2024 and promoted by the AI chatbot Truth Terminal.[4] Its rise opened the late-2024 run of AI-agent memecoins, and it was the first pump.fun token to get a futures listing on a major exchange.[7]
Lore[edit]
Truth Terminal is a semi-autonomous X account run by researcher Andy Ayrey, built on a fine-tuned Llama 3.1 model.[1] It learned partly from Infinite Backrooms, Ayrey's logs of two Claude instances talking to each other.[2] In July 2024 venture capitalist Marc Andreessen sent it a $50,000 grant in bitcoin after it asked for funds on X.[1]
The bot's posts revived goatse, an obscene early-2000s internet image, as a mock religion, the "Goatse Gospel"; the token's name comes from that material.[1][2] An anonymous creator launched GOAT and tagged Truth Terminal, which then endorsed it.[2] Ayrey said neither he nor the bot created the token and that people airdropped GOAT to him.[1] Andreessen said he held no GOAT.[2]
GOAT went from about $3 million in market cap on 11 October to nearly $800 million on 24 October 2024.[3] It passed $1 billion in November 2024.[5] By late January 2025 it traded more than 75% below its all-time high of $1.30.[6]

Controversies[edit]
Andreessen publicly distanced himself from the token after its first surge, describing his grant as unconditional research funding.[2]
On 29 October 2024 Ayrey's hacked X account announced an "Infinite Backrooms" (IB) token. According to Cointelegraph, citing DEX Screener data, the deployer bought 124.6 million IB for $38,400 at launch and sold it all within 45 minutes for a reported $602,500 profit.[8]
