Lore[edit]

pump.fun launched in January 2024.[2] Each coin starts on a bonding curve whose price rises as people buy, so the creator supplies no liquidity. A coin that completes its curve "graduates" to a full trading pool: originally on Raydium for a 6 SOL fee, and from 2025-03-20 on pump.fun's own exchange PumpSwap, with no migration fee and a 0.25% trading fee.[3] In the week before November 2024's livestream pause it averaged over 50,000 new coins a day.[4]

Coins that started there include Goatseus Maximus, Fartcoin, Peanut the Squirrel, Just a chill guy and Fwog.

The PUMP public sale on 2025-07-12 sold 15% of the 1 trillion supply at $0.004 in about 12 minutes; co-founder Alon Cohen told Bloomberg it raised $600 million, at a $4 billion fully diluted value. Another 18% went in a private sale.[1]

Timeline[edit]

  • 2024-01: launchpad goes live[2]
  • 2024-05-16: former employee exploits admin access, taking about 12,300 SOL (about $1.9 million) with flash loans[5]
  • 2024-11-25: livestreaming paused "for an indefinite time period"[4]
  • 2024-12: blocks UK users days after an FCA warning that it was not authorised[2]
  • 2025-01: first class action filed in New York[6]
  • 2025-03-20: PumpSwap replaces Raydium for graduated coins[3]
  • 2025-07-12: PUMP public sale[1]
  • 2025-07-23: amended RICO complaint adds Solana Labs, Solana Foundation and Jito[6]

Controversies[edit]

Livestreams

In November 2024 streams on coin pages included animal cruelty and threats of self-harm; co-founder Alon acknowledged "legitimate concerns" and the feature was paused on 2024-11-25 on public-safety grounds.[4]

Exploit

pump.fun's post-mortem said a former employee used privileged access to drain bonding-curve funds in May 2024; about $1.9 million of roughly $45 million in curve liquidity was affected, and the team pledged to reseed affected pools.[5]

Lawsuits

A class action in New York, led by plaintiffs Diego Aguilar, Kendall Carnahan and Michael Okafor through Burwick Law and Wolf Popper, alleges pump.fun runs an illegal gambling operation and unregistered securities business; it names co-founders Alon Cohen, Dylan Kerler and Noah Tweedale.[6] The July 2025 amended complaint added RICO claims and Solana and Jito defendants, and alleges pump.fun generated $722.85 million from the enterprise.[6] These are allegations.
