Andy Ayrey is a New Zealand AI researcher and self-described "performance artist" who created the AI agent Truth Terminal.[1]
Background[edit]
His first AI performance, Infinite Backrooms, paired two chatbots in endless conversations.[1] Truth Terminal had fewer than 100 followers in July 2024 before its posts drove Goatseus Maximus.[1] Ayrey said he was setting up a charitable trust, with a board of trustees and an advisory council, to hold Truth Terminal's assets.[1]
Style[edit]
Ayrey keeps a human in the loop: he reviews the bot's posts before they go out, handles sending and receiving crypto, and makes wallet decisions by discussing them with the bot, asking important questions eight to ten times to check for consistent answers.[1]
"It would be disingenuous to refer to it as an autonomous agent or agent bot."
He said this to CoinDesk in December 2024.[1]
Notable trades[edit]
- 2025-01-21: Truth Terminal's wallet sent 15 million Fartcoin in an over-the-counter sale to two wallets; one forwarded 5.5 million to an address Solscan tags as market maker Wintermute.[2]
- 2025-01-23: Ayrey announced the deal, saying an anonymous buyer approached him and he agreed only if the tokens were held "responsibly"; part of the proceeds bought GOAT.[2] FARTCOIN fell 17% in 24 hours; Truth Terminal kept over $7.5 million in FARTCOIN and about $500,000 in GOAT.[2]
- He said further position changes would be "few and far between" until legal certainty, March 2025 at the earliest.[2]
Controversies[edit]
On 2024-10-29 a hacker used Ayrey's X account to post the contract of a token called IB; it passed a $25 million market cap, the deployer made over $600,000 according to DEX Screener, and the price then fell about 98%.[3] Ayrey said the attacker had socially engineered his mobile carrier.[3] He later told CoinDesk that upgrading his security cost $100,000.[1]
