Jailstool (ticker JAILSTOOL, token name "Stool Prisondente") is a Solana memecoin adopted and promoted by Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy in February 2025.[1][2] Portnoy said he did not create it.[3] Its market cap peaked above $200 million within two days and fell more than 80% soon after.[2][4]
Lore[edit]
On 7 February 2025 Portnoy posted about trades in two memecoins, "Montoya por favor" and a "Josh Allen MVP" coin, and traders accused him of dumping on his roughly 3.5 million X followers.[1] He said he had turned about $10,000 into about $75,000 and asked whether trading that way could land someone in jail.[1] JAILSTOOL's name plays on his X handle, @stoolpresidente.[2] On 8 February he promoted the token in posts and an X Space, told followers not to invest more than they could afford to lose, and said he might eventually sell.[1]
Portnoy received about 57.16 million JAILSTOOL for roughly $378, sold them for about 586 SOL (over $119,000), then spent more than 1,000 SOL (about $200,000) to buy back just over 23 million.[4] Kraken listed the token after the surge.[2] GeckoTerminal recorded a peak above $267 million, while CoinGecko put the all-time high near $218 million.[2][4] By 10 February it was 83.6% below that high.[4]

Controversies[edit]
In mid-February 2025 a wallet linked to Portnoy deployed a memecoin called GREED; Lookonchain said he controlled 35% of its supply and made about $258,000 before its price fell more than 90%.[3] He then launched GREED2 on pump.fun, which briefly passed a $28 million market cap.[3] Some traders accused him of a rug pull; Portnoy said he had converted the GREED proceeds into JAILSTOOL and would not sell it before a $1 billion market cap.[3] The same week, Hayden Davis said Portnoy had lost millions trading Libra and later received a refund.[3]
