Known forRapper behind MOTHER, the highest-valued celebrity-created memecoin of 2024

Iggy Azalea is an Australian rapper who launched MOTHER, a Solana memecoin, on pump.fun on 2024-05-28. She became one of the most prominent figures among celebrity memecoins.[1][2]

Background[edit]

Azalea is an Australian musician. Decrypt's SCENE named her its 2024 Person of the Year for her crypto activity, calling MOTHER the highest-valued of any celebrity-created token.[2]

Style[edit]

Azalea presented herself as a long-term crypto participant rather than a one-off endorser: "I want to be a crypto legend!" and "I want to bring the chaos to the pop culture of crypto".[2] Decrypt reported that opinion of her improved after she held X Spaces and criticised promoter Sahil Arora. Pump.fun co-founder Alon said "when we found that she knew what she was doing, we were super bullish on her."[3]

Notable trades[edit]

IGGY presale

In May 2024 Arora ran a presale for a token named after Azalea that raised over $300,000. She distanced herself in a later-deleted post, saying she wanted a "legit coin with utility".[4] Decrypt reported that six months later IGGY presale buyers had received neither tokens nor refunds.[2]

MOTHER

  • 2024-05-28: Azalea launched MOTHER on pump.fun, hours after the IGGY presale collapsed.[1][2]
  • 2024-06: MOTHER reached a market cap just under $260 million within about two weeks, then fell about 82% over the following month.[2]
  • 2024-07: she said she held about 3% of supply, bought on the open market at around a $1.2 million market cap, and that the project had been vetted by firms including Wintermute and DEX Screener.[5]
  • 2024-10: her Motherland Rodeo Party at Token2049 in Singapore was followed by a rise of more than 157% in MOTHER over ten days.[2]
  • 2024-12-20: the project soft-launched Motherland, an online casino where users could gamble MOTHER tokens with livestreamed celebrities.[2]

Controversies[edit]

Insider allegations

  • 2024-05-29: Bubblemaps said insiders bought more than 20% of supply directly from the launch team and had sold over $2 million. It also said a wallet beginning "JEET" received 127.5 million MOTHER, about 12.75% of supply, from the deployer and made about $1.4 million in profit.[1]
  • Azalea said she had no control over what people did with coins after receiving them and that she opposed "dumping coins".[1] She later said "I never dumped $2 million".[5] Decrypt reported that 20% of supply was sniped at launch without her knowledge.[3]

Class action

  • 2026-05: an investor represented by Burwick Law sued Azalea in the Southern District of New York. The complaint alleges that promised utility never materialised: Motherland ran on USDT rather than MOTHER, and the Unreal Mobile and DreamVault integrations did not work as described.[6]
  • It also alleges investors were not told how market makers Wintermute and DWF Labs could trade the token. Azalea's representatives did not respond to Decrypt.[6]
