The name comes from the "Goatse Gospel", a mock religion that Truth Terminal wrote about at length. Someone launched GOAT on pump.fun in October 2024 and sent tokens to Truth Terminal, which began posting about it. The coin went from a few thousand dollars to hundreds of millions of dollars in market cap within days, later passing a billion.
GOAT is widely called the first "AI memecoin" and was followed by a wave of coins tied to AI agents and agent frameworks.
