SunPump is a memecoin launchpad on the Tron blockchain, backed by Tron founder Justin Sun and modelled on Solana's pump.fun, that launched on 9 August 2024.[1][2]

How it works[edit]

Users pick a name, image and theme and issue a token for a few dollars. A token that reaches a market value of $69,420 is listed automatically on a decentralized exchange, against $60,000 on pump.fun at the time.[2] Graduated tokens list on SunSwap.[3] On 22 August 2024 SunPump cut its trading fee from 1% to a flat 0.76 TRX, about one cent.[2]

History[edit]

SunPump took more than $1.1 million in revenue in its first 11 days, with over 18,000 memecoins made; its biggest day, 20 August, brought almost 2.78 million TRX (about $400,000) and over 6,000 coins.[1] On 21 August Decrypt counted 7,352 tokens made on SunPump in 24 hours against 5,694 on pump.fun, and 1.98% of SunPump tokens had graduated to SunSwap that day against 1.26% of pump.fun tokens reaching Raydium.[3] Justin Sun said the "meme strategy" could bring Tron over $4 billion in revenue within 12 months, Tron recorded $3.48 million in revenue over two days, and Arkham tracked a trader who turned $1,690 into about $20 million of the token SUNDOG in six days.[2]

The surge faded within weeks: by 10 September SunPump was making fewer than 1,000 coins a day, against 6,993 on pump.fun in a single day, and TRX had dropped out of the top 10 by market value.[4]
