pump.fun is a Solana memecoin launchpad where anyone can create a tradable coin in seconds. PUMP is its own token, launched in July 2025.
Lore[edit]
pump.fun went live in January 2024. Every coin starts on a bonding curve: the price rises automatically as people buy, with no liquidity needed from the creator. Once a coin reaches a set market cap it "graduates" to a full trading pool, first on Raydium and, from March 2025, on pump.fun's own exchange PumpSwap. The model made launching a coin nearly free and is the reason "trenching" exists as a pastime: millions of coins launched this way, and most never graduate.
Many of the best-known coins of 2024 started there, including Goatseus Maximus, Fartcoin, Peanut the Squirrel, Just a chill guy and Fwog.
The PUMP token sold in a public sale on 12 July 2025 that raised around $500 million in minutes.
Timeline[edit]
- 2024-01: launchpad goes live
- 2024-11: livestreaming on coin pages suspended
- 2025-03: PumpSwap replaces Raydium for graduated coins
- 2025-07-12: PUMP token sale
Controversies[edit]
In November 2024 pump.fun suspended its livestream feature after creators staged dangerous and abusive stunts on stream to promote their coins. The company has also faced lawsuits from traders arguing it profits from a casino-like market.
