**Turbo** (ticker **TURBO**) is an Ethereum memecoin created in April 2023 by digital artist Rhett Mankind, who gave OpenAI's GPT-4 a $69 budget and asked it to design a coin that could reach CoinGecko's top 300.[^1][^2] It peaked near $893 million in market cap in December 2024 after a Coinbase listing.[^3]

## Lore
ChatGPT wrote the contract, tokenomics and whitepaper, and Midjourney produced the toad branding. The original name, TurboToad, was picked by Mankind's audience from ChatGPT's suggestions. Mankind said: "I put my artistic ego aside and I let it do all the thinking."[^1]

The first Uniswap pool failed when a front-running bot bought up the liquidity, a form of [[Sniping|sniping]] that used up the $400 pool budget. After 78.6% of his audience voted to continue, Mankind redeployed the token as Turbo with community donations: 69 billion tokens, 60 billion for crowdfunders and 9 billion for himself, raising about 3.5 ETH from 50 holders.[^1] Turbo passed $50 million in market cap on 4 May 2023.[^1]

Turbo hit $0.009302 and about $638 million in market cap on 28 May 2024.[^2] Binance listed it for spot trading with a Seed Tag on 16 September 2024, alongside [[Neiro]].[^4] After a Coinbase spot listing it hit $0.0143 on 12 December 2024, with a market cap of about $893 million.[^3]
