Editing Moo Deng

**Moo Deng** (ticker **MOODENG**) is a [[Solana]] memecoin named after a pygmy hippopotamus at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi province, Thailand.[^1][^2] It launched on [[pump.fun]] in September 2024 and received a Binance perpetual futures listing in October 2024.[^1][^3]

## Lore
The hippo, two months old in September 2024, went viral that month; the zoo started a 24-hour livestream and began trademarking "Moo Deng the hippo" to stop others commercialising her.[^1][^2] The zoo's director said trademark income would fund animal welfare.[^2]

The coin passed a $71 million market cap within about two weeks of launch, briefly overtaking [[Fwog]] to become one of the largest pump.fun tokens.[^1] It peaked above $0.33 on 28 September 2024, fell about 78%, then roughly tripled in a day after Binance listed a MOODENG perpetual contract on 25 October 2024.[^3] On 14 November 2024 it set a new high near $0.50, a valuation close to $500 million, while still lacking a Binance spot listing.[^4]

In May 2025 it rose 143% in a day on more than $900 million in volume, part of a rebound in 2024's viral coins that included [[Peanut the Squirrel]].[^5] Binance.US listed it for spot trading in June 2025.[^6]
