Book of Meme (ticker BOME) is a Solana memecoin created by the pseudonymous crypto artist Darkfarms, pitched as a permanent archive of internet memes. It was funded by an uncapped SOL presale and was listed for spot trading on Binance less than 48 hours after its creation.[1][2]
Lore[edit]
Darkfarms began teasing the project on 10 March 2024 and revealed the "Book of Meme" concept on 12 March: a memecoin bundled with a permanent meme library, an updatable e-magazine, a meme-making tool and a gallery of CC0 meme clip art.[1]
Presale
The presale ran for 24 hours from 13 March 2024. Buyers sent SOL to a public address with no fixed price, and tokens were allocated in proportion to each contribution. Darkfarms had expected 500–600 SOL; the presale raised 10,131 SOL. A community vote decided how the raised funds were allocated.[1]
Launch and listings
The first BOME/SOL pools on Raydium were created on 14 March 2024.[3] The token rose more than 3,000% in its first 24 hours.[1] Binance opened spot trading on 16 March 2024, a process that usually takes the exchange weeks or months; 24-hour volume reached $1.83 billion.[2] KuCoin, Gate.io, MEXC, HTX and Crypto.com also listed it. By 18 March the price had risen about 457-fold from $0.000058 to $0.026886, a market capitalisation of about $1.46 billion.[4]
Presale wave
BOME's presale was followed by a run of copycat Solana presales. On-chain investigator ZachXBT counted 33 presales from 12 March 2024 that together raised more than 796,000 SOL (about $149 million); Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko replied "Stop doing this."[5] Slerf, whose developer burned the tokens owed to presale buyers, became the best-known failure of the wave.[6]

Controversies[edit]
Binance listing
According to Lookonchain, a newly funded wallet withdrew 12,721 SOL (about $2.3 million) from Binance and bought 314 million BOME at $0.0074 within 30 minutes before the listing, prompting allegations of insider trading.[4] Binance said its preliminary investigation found the buyer was not a member of its staff, and offered bounties of $100,000 to $5 million for reports of listing-related misconduct.[2][4] Decrypt asked Binance why BOME had been approved so quickly and received no immediate answer.[2]
Presales
The presale model BOME popularised drew criticism from Yakovenko and others after the Slerf burn and the scale of the follow-on raises.[5][6]
