Alon Cohen (X: @a1lon9) is a co-founder of the Solana memecoin launchpad pump.fun, with Dylan Kerler and Noah Tweedale.[1][2]

Background[edit]

Decrypt reported that the three co-founders started the project as degens working remotely, and in July 2025 Cohen said the company had over 70 employees across several regions.[1]

  • 2025-04-17: said neither he, pump.fun nor any employee would issue coins, ruling out "stealth launches".[3]
  • 2025-06-16: his account and the official pumpdotfun account were suspended by X alongside accounts of GMGN, Bloom Trading and BullX; X gave no reason.[2]
  • 2025-07-21: told Decrypt the "overwhelming majority" of revenue is reinvested in product development and declined to say how much is profit.[1]
  • 2025-07-24: said a further PUMP token distribution "will not be taking place in the immediate future"; PUMP fell more than 15% in 24 hours, to about 25% below its 2025-07-12 listing price.[4]

Style[edit]

Cohen has said memecoins will settle at about a 1% graduation rate and that "it's the ~1% that really matters".[1] He said "Data are great, but UX means everything" and that pump.fun operates entirely on-chain.[1] In April 2025 he criticised a token auto-minted from Base's official X post, saying anyone who launches a coin while holding social influence takes on responsibility.[3]

Controversies[edit]

A proposed class action filed in January 2025 in the Southern District of New York named Cohen, Kerler, Tweedale and Baton Corporation Ltd, alleged operator of pump.fun, claiming the platform sold unregistered securities; the sole named plaintiff said he lost $231 trading Peanut the Squirrel.[5] The complaint does not allege fraud; Cohen did not respond to Decrypt.[5]
