Jito is a Solana infrastructure project for maximal extractable value (MEV) whose block engine accepts transaction bundles with SOL tips, and JTO is the governance token of the Jito Foundation, airdropped on 7 December 2023.[1][2] Its bundles are the usual way Solana traders and bots land snipes and bundled launch buys.[3]

Lore[edit]

Bundles and tips

A Jito bundle is a list of up to five transactions that execute in order, all-or-nothing, within one slot; it must carry a tip of at least 1,000 lamports paid to one of eight tip accounts, and higher tips win under demand.[3] Tipped bundles are processed privately through Jito validators, which also shields trades from sandwich bots; users paid over $9.3 million in tips in one week to early May 2024, and Jito is built into Jupiter's app and major wallets.[4] In November 2023 the Jito Foundation said validators running its MEV client held over 40% of Solana's stake.[1] On 17 November 2024, amid the memecoin rally, Jito had its third-highest fee day at $9.87 million.[5]

Token

JTO has a supply of 1 billion, 115 million circulating at launch; 10% went to the community airdrop for JitoSOL holders, MEV-client validators and searchers, with a minimum of 4,941 JTO each and 18 months to claim.[1][2] JTO opened near $1.20 on Solana DEXs and rose toward $2.[2] Jito Labs had raised a $10 million Series A in 2022; in October 2025 a16z crypto invested $50 million in the Jito Foundation through a private token sale.[1][6]

Controversies[edit]

Jito ran the only mempool on Solana, inside its block engine, and on 8 March 2024 shut it down after sandwich attacks on retail traders spread, saying its attempts to reject sandwich bundles had become a cat-and-mouse game with searchers.[7] On 13 November 2024 a block engine outage stopped bundle delivery for a period variously given as 10 minutes to an hour, and priority fees rose about 25 to 30 times; Jito said Solana itself was not affected.[8]
