Pudgy Penguins began as an Ethereum NFT collection in 2021 and grew into a consumer brand with toys sold in major retailers. PENGU launched on Solana on 17 December 2024, with a large share of supply airdropped to NFT holders and to millions of wallets across chains. Choosing Solana over Ethereum for an Ethereum-native brand was widely read as a sign of where memecoin activity had moved.
